Beach of Wisdom

I had a dream that I was walking in the sand
Barefoot-
And alone

The hot, red, fiery ball of a sun
Was setting below
The pale orange sky

And it seemed to be melting into the
Dark, blue ocean
Right before my eyes

Shallow, cool waves washed over my feet
And wet sand squished
Between my toes

Ahead of me was a deep black darkness
And I was unsure of what
I was walking into

I hesitated, and then looked behind me
My footprints behind me were disappearing
One by one

For a moment,
I was frightened
And I stood frozen

I looked ahead once again
Into the blackness
Wondering what the future held

Then I looked behind me as my last track disappeared
Thinking of my past
And where I'd been

A warm tear trickled down my cheek
And with a feeling of complete hopelessness,
I looked at where I was now

And once again I saw the sun
Halfway hidden
Below the horizon

I saw the distorted
reflection
In the calm blue ocean

Seagulls flew over my head
And waves still
Lapped at my feet

I smiled then, because I realized
It doesn't matter where I've been before
And where I'm going isn't important

The only thing that matters
Is where I am
Right now

I shouldn't take the present for granted
Or waste a single moment of precious time
With worrying

Instead I should relax,
Watch the sunset,
And wait for the tide to come in...
